Prof, who unearthed Göbeklitepe, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with his excavations. Dr. Klaus Schmidt was not forgotten on the 10th anniversary of his death. Hundreds of cycling enthusiasts came together for Schmidt, visited the archaeologist's house and pedaled to Göbeklitepe.

< p>As part of the commemoration event held for the 5th time this year in Şanlıurfa, cycling enthusiasts came together at the house where German Archaeologist Prof. Dr. Klaus Schmidt lived and said "We Are Pedaling to Göbeklitepe in the Footsteps of Klaus Schmidt " started with the cycling event. 

The group of 100 cyclists set out in the city center and reached Göbeklitepe by pedaling for approximately 20 kilometers. Cycling enthusiasts had the opportunity to visit the Göbeklitepe ruins. Merve Ofluoğlu, Head of the Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Tourism Department, who spearheaded the event, said: “We plan to hold this event at a more comprehensive national and international level every year. Because Göbeklitepe is our face to the world and we always remember Klaus Schmidt, who brought this to us, with mercy and we will continue to remember his name,” he said. 

Şanlıurfa Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Aydın Aslan, Prof. Dr. Schmidt's contributions to human history, especially Göbeklitepe, were emphasized. Prof. Dr. The event, which reminded the deep traces Klaus Schmidt left in the world of science and his impact on Şanlıurfa, received great appreciation from the participants. 

Prof sheds light on history with the excavations he carried out in Göbeklitepe and the findings he obtained. Dr. Klaus Schmidt passed away in 2014.
